+We hit our heads (!) when getting into bed, leaving through the steep ladder / manhole situation, and when walking to the bathroom up the kitchen platform.

The front (only) door situation was precarious (hellish). We felt burdened by the 7-part unlock / slide open the roof / unlock / open the door / slide closed the roof / lock / close the door situation. And he said “go backwards or you’ll break your neck.”

(Other nearby boats had full-size front doors + stairs; so it’s possible.)

Ps: There were lots of spiders outside in the seating area, windows, and in the bedroom.

Pss: The roof over the bed covers more than half of the bed - so if you’re the least bit claustrophobic, you might freak out.

Check out was at 10AM, at 10:04AM as we were packing our last things, the host came barging through the door without any knock or warning. I was still putting on a pair of pants and was half naked, which he didn't even acknowledge. He told us gruffly that we were past our checkout time (by four minutes) and then started roughly tidying the apartment. He then started cursing about us aggressively in Dutch, which we speak and understood all of it. We were truly speechless, and my wife ultimately felt so uncomfortable at how bizarrely angry this individual was behaving that we quickly grabbed our things without even checking the boat and left without a word.

This person is not suited to being an Airbnb host, and though this is otherwise a wonderful stay, I cannot recommend that anyone stay at this location.

  It's cute and a unique experience but the hosts suck and it's not worth the money. Over $400 a night and they won't let you control the heating ammenity... read more & expect you to wash the dishes. At night they digitally turned down the thermostat 15C/59F. I reached out to the host to make sure I wasn't using it wrong and he let me know they turn it down automatically. I requested they not do that the following night because it got rather cold. They apologized and said they would turn that feature off. I said thank you and let them know I turned it down when we left for the day. When I got up to use the bathroom at 3am the following night, sure enough they set it to 15C/59F again. So they lied. I messaged to request it be turned up which they allowed in the morning but never responded. Cherry on top was the house manual that said to be respectful to the neighbors because they are wealthy and paid a lot of money for the houses. How about be courteous of neighbors because it's the right thing? 🤔

Our host, Olaf, was extremely responsive, welcoming, and very kind (even when we locked the key in the house). The space on the boat is so well used and the kitchen and bathroom surprisingly roomy. The kitchen was also very well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The only thing that is small is the sleeping area, but we found it cozy. You can even sit on the deck and watch the world go by - heaven. Don’t hesitate to book this wonderful property.

The boat has everything you need and sitting out on the deck with a drink watching the tour boats go by is a great experience. Olaf and Mark were flexible when our plans changed and communicated quickly on everything.   Staying in a boathouse in Amsterdam is the perfect introduction to the city. Secure and private on the inside and part of the historic neighborhood on the outside. I was... read more worried about climbing through the hatch to enter but the clear cut instructions , safe steps and automatic lights made it easy....even with my overstuffed suitcase (okay, my husband helped with that.) We felt right at home, enjoyed sitting on deck in the lounge chairs, and slept very well in the comfortable bed...even the low ceiling over the head of the bed became more of a joke than a nuisance. Watching the neighborhood birds from water level was fascinating...the pair of grebes fishing, the coot mates building a nest on a nearby boat, and the ducks on our own green roof when we arrived. The bonus was the canal cruise boats passing by, just a few on the first two nights, but since we we checked out on King's Day, the party atmosphere the night before was lively and exciting.
